Prof. Miroslava Mirković (1933–2020)
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing, on May 3rd 2020, of Prof. dr Miroslava Mirković (born 1933 in Kosovska Mitrovica), lecturer and professor at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Belgrade since 1957. This is a great loss for all at Belgrade University and for the international academic community.
Prof. Mirković had a boundless passion for ancient history, literature, epigraphy, as well as papyrology and archaeology. Her research interests included Roman army, politics and society, history of urbanization and city life, Late Antiquity and early Christianity, family and kinship in ancient Mediterranean, peoples of Roman and pre-Roman Balkans and Danube regions, as well as constant work on publishing and commenting new inscriptions. She collaborated on the project Inscriptions de la Mésie Supérieure (publishing inscriptions from Singidunum and Viminacium), as well as on new editions of CIL on Pannonia and Moesia Superior.
She will be remembered by the academic community for her consistent scholarly activity, her passion for epigraphy and ancient history, and as an engaging and excellent communicator, a confident, yet always approachable scholar.
