I. TRESVIRI PRAEMIIS DANDIS:
For the assessment of applications for a Géza Alföldy scholarship we were able to win three prestigious epigraphists for the collegium of “tresviri praemiis dandis”:

  • Angelos Chaniotis (Princeton)
  • Werner Eck (Cologne)
  • Stephen Mitchell (formerly Exeter)

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the tresviri for their commitment and hope for interesting projects that can benefit from such a scholarship.

II. VOTE ON THE EXTENSION OF THE STATUTES – RESULTS:

The votes were counted by a commission of AIEGL members on 10 March 2014.
The results:

  • 163 votes cast,
  • 161 voted “Yes”,
  • 2 voted “No”.

AIEGL Commission: Marcus Dohnicht, Anne Glock, Ulrike Jansen, Marina Veksina.

On one hand, the result is encouraging because it shows that many members are interested in a better involvement in the politics of AIEGL via Internet.
Therefore, I would like to thank all those who have participated in this vote.
On the other hand, 161 votes are not enough for a change of the statutes, which must be desired by two-thirds of the members – according to the present state at least 298 members.
Since almost two-thirds (!) of all members has so far not delivered an opinion on this important issue, the bureau believes that another opportunity should be given to do so. We would also like to give the many new members, who have recently joined the association, the opportunity to participate in this decision.

III. EXTENSION OF THE VOTING PERIOD

We extend the deadline until 28 March 2014 and ask all members, who have been silent so far, to cast their votes!
Please remember that according to the previous rules, the participation of the members in the association policy is limited to the vote at the five-yearly General Assembly.
